Frequently
Asked Questions The equipment suitable for picture framing falls
into 4 main categories. The choice of the tools you choose for your
framing is a balance between the cost, the degree of professional result
required and the amount of frames you want to make.. Many artists,
photographers and woodworkers want to do their own framing - and why
not. It SAVES TIME and MONEY! and gives
the satisfaction of doing it yourself. Frame
Cutting and Measuring - to obtain a good frame join
it is important to cut the frame accurately. Some mitre saws allow too
much variation in the degree of the cut which affects the join. A good
quality suspended mitre saw or electric drop saw are most suitable. Team
this together with the FrameCo Ezy-Measure System for accurate measuring
and you will be pleased with the final result. Joining
and Clamping the Moulding - Once all the pieces of
the frame are cut, they need to be held together for joining. A cord
clamp or metal strap clamp is required. To join the mitred corners use
the PushMaster to insert V-Nails (wedges) into each corner. These are
inserted at the back of the moulding, and are the same type as what the
professional picture uses. Mat/Mount
Cutting - Mat cutters are used to cut a 45° bevel in
the coloured card (mountboard) that surrounds your picture. There are
many different ones to choose from and we stock a large range to suit
all requirements and budgets. Fitting
and Finishing - Backing nails or flexipoints
(bendable tabs) are inserted into the back of the frame to secure the
picture in place. The PushMaster is used to insert either of these and
also inserts the screw eyes into the frame to attach the wire. Your
picture is now ready for hanging. At FrameCo we provide a range of DIY Picture
Framing tools for the occasional framer through to small business
